...Long known as the "H. L. Mencken of Lovell", Ethel Hurst has accepted the position of top columnist for the Portland Press-Herald. Ethel will replace Bill Nemitz, who is retiring. Frustrated with Governor Paul LePage and his policies, Nemitz plans to focus his energies on his own bid to replace the Governor in 2014.
Ethel, who currently writes a weekly column for the Conway Sun and the Bridgton News, views the Press-Herald as an opportunity too good to pass up. "I hope to fill a void for the Southern Maine newspaper readers. There are so many good stories that go unpublished. I will leave no stone unturned in my efforts to bring these to the forefront. It will be hard to leave behind all of my good friends in Lovell but this is something that I have been thinking about for a long time."
Wayne Rivet, editor of the Bridgton News, said that the absence of Ethel Hurst's column will certainly result in a loss of circulation. "The last time Ethel's column was missing from the paper, we got so many complaints via email, that our server crashed. I don't know how we will replace her."
KezarLife.com will also miss its "Ethel Interrupts" postings. Far and away, Ethel's interesting tidbits drives the most traffic to the site.
I wish Ethel much success in her new position.
April's Fool:)
