2014 Lovell OHD 5k ArtAs we almost rip the month of June off the calendar, plans are in full swing for the Lovell 5k run and the Old Home Days parade that follows the last runner. It is somewhat hard to believe that this will be the tenth year of the race!

Saturday, July 19th is the big day and the race starts at 9:45 am. This year's t-shirt design is by Alison Upton of Lovell. Alison, who will be a senior next year at the Fryeburg Academy, won the annual design contest conducted by Steve Pullan, art teacher at the school. This year's contest was very competitive and several entrants were asked to 'tweak' their original designs. As winner, Alison collects the $100 prize!

This local event always has a field mixed with both competitive and non-competitive runners as well as ages from seven to eighty-eight.

The first 100 registered runners receive a t-shirt so be sure to register early. You may do so on-line at: Running4free.com  or download a paper form at Lovell5k.com.

Home hospitality provided by the 5th and 6th generations of Stearns (Al and bride of 56 years, Jacky plus their daughter Rondi and her community volunteer & entrepreneur husband Stan) is the best. What awesome and inspiring vistas from West Lovell Road, looking past the fields of wild flowers and stone fence to Baldface Mountain. Going the other direction past Stearns Road and then down Marcus Way to Stearns Camp is equally engaging. Kezar Lake is a rare beauty. Heard the bass are biting. Now I'm back in Chesapeake Bay Country, relishing my memories o'er the week-end in Lovell & on Kezar. Thanks.
