2013 Chili Challenge

chilli bowl graphic

The Sixth Annual Battle of the Bowls will be held on Sunday, November 10th! Every year both professional and amateur chefs compete for top awards and, most importantly, bragging rights.

The Chili Challenge donates all proceeds to the Lovell Friends Helping Friends Emergency Fund. This important program provides heating assistance for local residents. Last year's Challenge raised more than $1,000.

The Battle of the Bowls will once again be at the Center Lovell Fire House from Noon to 2 pm. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children six and under. In addition to tasting a variety of chili, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches will be available as well as the popular bake sale. Plus, you might win some nice gifts in the raffle.

If you are unable to attend the Chili Challenge but would still like to support the program, personal donations may be sent to Friends Helping Friends, Town of Lovell, PO Box 236, Center Lovell, ME 04016. 2013 Chili Challenge Registration Form 2013 Chili Challenge Flyer

There is plenty of time for you to perfect your favorite Chili recipe. Be creative and make a chicken or a vegetarian chili. A fun time is guaranteed and the Patriots have a BYE.

Severance in Center Lovell (located in what is now the Harvest Gold Gallery). Not only did they sell properties on Kezar Lake but they had listings throughout western Maine and New Hampshire.

Before the age of the internet and information spreading internationally within seconds, Severance published an annual 'Property Guide' that included not only listing details but info on local attractions and activities. It is my understanding that this booklet, filled with photos, was anticipated by many and was mailed throughout the country.

It is a lot of fun to look through the booklet and see properties that we recently sold or have listed currently and see the significant increases in prices. Just might show that an investment in housing, over the long haul, does pay! Buy a four-season home, with 200' of frontage on Kezar Lake, for $82,500. Listing No. 2593J--Call before someone else scoops it up.

I also enjoyed the firm's proud announcement of their new up-to-date computer system which will help them plot maps and calculate acreage.

One other interesting property was found in the 'Commercial' section--The Lovell Village Olde Country Store! Real estate and all equipment for $98,000.

Thanks to Sue Hamlin for sharing this gem from the family archives.
