Labor Day marks the traditional but unofficial end of summer. School has started so families have headed back home. The town slows down a little but this weekend begins my favorite time of year. Temperatures are cooler but you can still swim in the lake. The bugs are gone so going for a hike is a real pleasure. And the [...]

August 16th, 2014--Lovell's Super Saturday!

This Saturday, August 16th, are two anticipated events that are always well attended and raise significant funds for their respective organizations.
First up in the morning is the 39th Annual Arts & Artisans Fair that benefits the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library. Starting at 9 am and continuing until 3 pm, this juried show has over 50 artisans spread inside and out the New Suncook School on Route 5. There will also be demonstrations, an always popular book sale, raffles and homemade refreshments. Come on out to see the talents of many local artists and craftsmen.
After a day at the Arts Fair or just tired from a great afternoon swimming and boating on the lake, have dinner at the Center Lovell Firehouse from 4-7 pm. The food is always good and plentiful and proceeds benefit the Lovell Volunteer Fire Department. For just $9 you will have 1/2 chicken, freshly picked corn on the cob, delicious side dishes and ice cream treats. Be sure to come early as last year the kitchen ran out of chicken!

Fox & Sons, Part Two
Although there were weeks of site preparation and the pouring of the new foundation and there is still plenty of finishing work to be done, the actual lifting and moving of the structure took a little more than a week. I must say, Mighty Impressive! And it won't be long before it will look like the house is in the original spot.

Fox & Sons
Whenever I see a 'Fox & Sons' sign in a yard, it is always difficult for me not to stop and become a sidewalk superintendent. It is fascinating to see a built house lifted from its existing foundation and moved to another foundation without falling apart. Almost as delicate as [...]
