I'm always impressed when a person has the vision and ability to take an object and turn it into a thing of beauty. And to be functional as well. My friend Jeff Wilson of Stow, Maine does woodturning as a hobby and creates turned bowls, utensils, candlesticks and more. He sells his items by word of mouth. For several years I have been trying to get him to set up a table at Lovell Old Home Days. He finally did so this year and was very happy with not only the sales that he made but the overall response that he received. The process of looking at a large piece of wood that usually would be split for firewood and over a period of time transformed into something else is fascinating.
Jeff is an avid hiker and has done the Appalachian Trail in both directions and just finished a 272-mile hike on the Long Trail from Massachusetts to Canada.
The name of Jeff's company is Wild River Woodturning and he can be reached at 207-697-3532. His 'wood art' is functional and makes the perfect gift.
