Even though it is snowing heavily now after a nice long stretch of sunny winter days, it has been hard to avoid visions of hot July days as planning is underway for Lovell's Old Home Days 5k Run (July 16th, 2011) and related activities.
Many runners love collecting t-shirts from the races that they participate in and the Lovell 5k always gets positive feedback for the unique designs. Every spring, Fryeburg Academy art teacher Steve Pullan asks his students to participate in a design contest that incorporates the themes of running and Lovell (lakes, mountains, farms, etc.). There have been many good designs over the past four years and the task of choosing just one is difficult. Last year's winner, drawn by Mary Rhymer, is above. I have already met with Steve regarding this year's contest and in a few weeks we will have a good number of drawings to review. The winning artist also receives $100!
The first 100 paid entrants to the race get the t-shirt. If you have never run this course before, it precedes the annual Old Home Days Parade, starts by the golf course, onto Route 5 through the village and finishes near the Gazebo at the Athletic Field. Lots of refreshments, great prizes and fun! For more information, photos and entry form, please visit lovell5k.com.
Planning is also underway for the parade and activities at the Athletic Field. The Swift River Jazz Band will be playing in the parade as well as at the gazebo after the parade. As always, there will be other bands, marchers, floats and more!
Bring everyone to this family friendly day, run the race and have a great day in Lovell!
