I'm sure that High School Music Directors throughout Maine, New England and beyond have to wonder just what is in Fryeburg's drinking water. What else can contribute to their perennial status as Champions at various state, regional and national music festivals?
Perhaps it is the hard work of not only Brent LaCasce, Fryeburg Academy's Music Director and Chair of the Fine Arts Department, but the commitment by a number of talented students. Senior Jon Dana sums it up best when he said that "Fryeburg Academy has an outstanding music program. That is why it is so successful. The kids work hard; the teachers work harder; and in the end, a polished jazz machine emerges. The hours of work are long, but they are fun and definitely pay off in the end."
Their most recent title was captured at The State Instrumental Jazz Festival at Mount Desert Island where over 80 schools from across Maine were represented. They also did very well at the prestigious Berklee Jazz Festival in Boston.
Brent LaCasce and his assistant Chris Forbes have been working their 'magic' for a long time. During that period, many students come and go as they move from the freshman class to seniors but the constant sharp focus on hard work and practices keeps paying off. Local folks can see the students perform on Wednesday, May 18th at Brownfield's Stone Mountain Arts Center.
