It seems that as soon as I returned from NJ, I was on Air Tran from Portland to Baltimore to see my son Ben and his wife for a pre-deployment visit. Ben ships out later this month for a tour of that friendly country, Afghanistan.
It has been seven years since I was in Baltimore and although there have been some major positive changes, it still seems to be struggling with abandoned homes and drug violence. However, I was there to have fun. Took the light rail to downtown from the airport and it was a short walk to the hotel. First stop was the Lexington Market for Faidley's famous Lump Crabcake. Spent the rest of the day walking through my old running routes. Weather was perfect and we headed to Pickles Pub and Camden Yards for an O's - Mariners game. It took 13 innings but the O's won and it was the first win of a three-game sweep. And met up with a couple of old friends at the game.
It is good to hear that our Lovell correspondent, Ethel Hurst, is recuperating from a recent unexpected visit to Maine Med. She is back home and it won't be long before we see her around town again!
You would think that once the snow melts that you would have some time to work on the yard but almost overnight you realized that the grass needs cutting and the flowerbeds are full of weeds. Then you go outside to do some work and the bugs are all over you!
This is also graduation month for our daughter, Anna, and her senior year at Fryeburg ends on May 29th. Lots of people coming for that ceremony and we will have a nice party for Anna and Team Vietnam at camp. Anna will be headed to Italy for a visit in early June and working in the summer before heading off to China for a year of study through the NSLI program.
