Summer time and there are always things to do but here are two events that will be worth the effort to attend:
1) On Saturday and Sunday, the inaugural Western Maine BBQ Festival will be at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds and it looks like a winner. Set-up as a fundraiser by the Denmark Lions Club to raise funds for their various charitable programs, there will be plenty of beef, pork and ribs as well as music, vendors, cooking clinics, classic car shows and more. On Saturday there will be a barbecue competition sanctioned by the New England Barbecue Society and another competition on Sunday sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. Thirty-five teams are competing for prizes and awards worth more than $12,000. There is a $5.00 admission fee to the Fairgrounds.
2) Sunday is Open Farm Day throughout the State. This is the 22nd year and it allows people to visit local farms for demonstrations, displays and the opportunity to purchase locally made goods. My favorite place to visit is Michelle Delucia and Eric Fisher's Sunshine Daydream Farm and Gardens on Center Conway Road in Brownfield. Their flower gardens and studios will be open and you could visit their sheep. Sunday's hours are from 10 - 4.
