Apple Orchards

The air has turned cooler and thoughts of autumn activities have replaced those of swimming in the lake. With the changing of the seasons, Governor Paul LePage is encouraging families to experience the great Maine outdoors and visit an apple orchard. The Governor said that apple farms serve as an "integral link" between urban, suburban and rural communities. For a complete list of orchards, please visit GetRealMaine.

One of our favorite orchards, Pie Tree Orchards, is right up the road in Sweden. Formerly operated by the McSherry family for 75 years, the farm now offers a variety of fruit during the summer and fall. Macs and Cortlands can now be picked and more varieties will be available as they ripen. After spending time in the field, be sure to visit the kitchen where wonderful doughnuts, pies and cider can be enjoyed. Current hours are 9-5 daily.

Apple cider donuts -- I haven't had them in years! Might just be worth a drive to Sweden. ☺ Thanks for the inspiration!

It is a great place to visit--combine it with a trip to the Fryeburg Fair!

Such a great place. I long for fresh crisp apples. Will trade key limes for apples!

The problem is that I wouldn't know what to with the key limes. I would prefer that you put the limes in a pie form and then send them up!
