2016 Ice-Out (not yet)!

2016 Ice OutWhen asked about this year's Kezar Lake ice-out date, my response has been to ask when was there ice-in? (Here is something interesting to read -- scientists are now collecting ice-in dates) I know I saw many people ice-fishing on the lake this year and I talked to a number of people who did go out and Jeff's Bait Shop in Center Lovell said he ended up with a good year, but I never had a desire to venture out there this year. Pretty much, I like to leave my swimming to the summer months.

The widely-accepted definition of ice-out is when one can navigate from one end of a body of water to the other end without interruption. As you can see from the above picture taken this afternoon at the north end of the lake, there is still ice. And with a cold spell coming over the next few days, it might not be going away all that quickly!

Click here for a somewhat dated collection of ice-out dates in New England. Info for Kezar Lake is on page 13.
