Another great Sunday afternoon in Center Lovell raising funds for Lovell Friends Helping Friends! The Ninth Annual Lovell Chili Challenge had 17 chefs offer their favorite chili recipes to folks eager to taste a variety of chili styles (turkey, beef, vegetarian, pork, moose, venison, sweet, spicy, red and green) and to vote for their favorite.
Due to the quality of the chilies, the veteran group of judges (Janice Sage, Bob Drew, Ethel Hurst and Mark Moulton) had a very difficult time picking a winner. Extra rounds of tasting were needed to provide separation. A common refrain heard throughout the day was that there were so many good chilies!
Here are the official winners for 2016:
JUDGES' CHOICE
First Place: Art Parmenter Second Place: Jan Newhouse Third Place (tie): Steve Stearns & Anna Kulakowski
PEOPLES CHOICE
First Place: Jean Hunter Second Place (tie): Anna Kulakowski & Chris Hughes Third Place (tie): Paula Hughes & Stephen James
BEST TABLE DECOR: Two Sisters Chili by Anna Kulakowski & Maria Croteau
Congratulations to not only all of the winners but to everyone who participated as 100% of the proceeds are donated to the Lovell Friends Helping Friends which helps local residents in need of emergency heating assistance. A total of $751 was raised for the fund.
