Fall Scenery

Here are a couple of yard scenes that make you smile as you drive around the area. As I find them, I will keep posting the pictures.

Pie Tree Orchard

Although a May frost did do damage to many of the region's trees, this is still a good time to go out and pick your own apples. One of our favorite places is Pietree Orchard in Sweden where there are numerous varieties to choose from and if you don't feel like doing your own picking, the new farm stand has everything ready to go. In addition to apples, pumpkins vegetables and cider, you have to try their freshly made donuts! :)

Pietree is located on the Waterford Road in Sweden. Their phone number is 207-647-9419.

Tennis Courts Update

We are getting closer and closer to the completion of the tennis courts. The exterior fencing is back up and the blacktop is now green. I'm no engineer but it looks like all that is needed now are the court stripes and the center nets. Looks like there will be plenty of time left before the snow arrives to play tennis.

The Fall Harvest at the Lovell Historical Society

This Sunday, September 26th, from 1-4 pm, the Lovell Historical Society presents the The Fall Harvest. All members of the family will enjoy this program that demonstrates the old-time fall harvesting practices in western Maine.

There will be the operation of a cider press, pumpkin painting for the children, a petting zoo, a tool exhibit, a bake sale plus refreshments. In addition, the museum will be open. The barn will be filled with traditional fiddle music played by Birds on a Wire.

Both the apples and pumpkins have been donated by Pietree Orchard of Sweden. The Fall Harvest is free and open to the public.

Lake Kezar Country Club

Late Summer and early Autumn is the best time to play golf in this area. And the best value is at the Lake Kezar Country Club in Lovell. The front nine opened in 1924 and the back nine was completed in 1998. Two very different layouts and both are in great shape. Hard to believe after a very busy season.

The best value is the price change at 4 pm and you still have time to play nine or more holes. What I find hard to believe is that yesterday was a perfect weather day and we just about had the course to ourselves.

The photo above was taken on the 18th fairway which is long and straight and lined with tall pines. Wonderful views as you approach the final green.

That's right. The perfect way to end a round of golf.
