Fryeburg Fair

Around here, it doesn't really matter if you like the Fryeburg Fair or not. It has an impact on everyone. There are a few businesses that shut down for the week because they are working at the Fair. And unless you want to be sitting in a long line of traffic, you need to be familiar with the back roads.

But you don't mind putting up with all of that because the Fair is very special. Established in 1851, the Fair has grown but remains true to its agricultural roots. Yes, there is a midway and horse racing. But the focus is on the animals, local crafts and the natural resources. And some wonderful food and musical acts! This is a great way for a family to spend a day and evening together.

The fun starts this Sunday, October 3rd with horse racing starting on Tuesday. 1154 Main Street, Fryeburg. 207-935-3268 Visit the Fair on Facebook.

Fall Scenery

Here are a couple of yard scenes that make you smile as you drive around the area. As I find them, I will keep posting the pictures.

Pie Tree Orchard

Although a May frost did do damage to many of the region's trees, this is still a good time to go out and pick your own apples. One of our favorite places is Pietree Orchard in Sweden where there are numerous varieties to choose from and if you don't feel like doing your own picking, the new farm stand has everything ready to go. In addition to apples, pumpkins vegetables and cider, you have to try their freshly made donuts! :)

Pietree is located on the Waterford Road in Sweden. Their phone number is 207-647-9419.

Tennis Courts Update

We are getting closer and closer to the completion of the tennis courts. The exterior fencing is back up and the blacktop is now green. I'm no engineer but it looks like all that is needed now are the court stripes and the center nets. Looks like there will be plenty of time left before the snow arrives to play tennis.
