Things To Do
Cross-Country Skiing on Lake Kezar Country Club
I took a late afternoon break today and went cross-country skiing at the Lake Kezar Country Club. There are three levels of trails that cross over the fairways, past the greens and through the woods (where I usually find my golf balls).
There were one or two icy spots in a shady section but overall the trails are nicely groomed and easy to maneuver [...]
2014 Mushers Bowl
For football fans, the two weeks between the Conference Championship games and the Super Bowl is an awful long time. For the first time since September, there are no weekend football games to watch. And many Patriot fans just might say the heck with the Super Bowl. So, what does one do with all of the free time?...
This Saturday and Sunday, January 25th & [...]
AMC's 2014 International Dinner Schedule
I'm often asked what does one do in the middle of a cold, long winter in rural western Maine. You sometimes get the feeling that people believe everything shuts down until ice-out on the [...]
L.L.Bean
I would bet that if you were to ask most people from away, what they think of when you mention Maine, L.L.Bean would be right up there with lobsters, mountains and lighthouses. I am not a big customer of L.L.Bean but about once a year or so we find ourselves in Freeport where the flagship store is located.
L.L.Bean is known for hunting boots, clothing and outdoor equipment. The company is also famous for its [...]
SHOP Local--SHOP LOVELL
Very often, finding the perfect Christmas gift for that someone special can be very difficult. Going to the malls or outlet shops is not only a hassle, but who wants to deal with inattentive and rude clerks? Buying on-line may save time but it doesn't allow you to see or touch what you are [...]
2013 Gasping Gobbler Results
Early this morning it was COLD and the strong winds blowing from every direction made it much colder! But the sun stayed out and helped to make the day perfect for runners and walkers. A total of 61 participants crossed the finish line. The overall winner was Stephanie Wetzel with a winning time of 20:01 and Christian Bedell was the top [...]

There are numerous awards for both runners and walkers (NO RUNNING PERMITTED), various age group categories plus the following participants win a turkey: [...]
2013 Lovell Chili Challenge Results
A great thank you to everyone who came to the Sixth Annual Chili Competition yesterday. There were 13 chili entrants and each chili was very different. From beef to vegetarian, from mild to smoking hot, the Challenge brought out the best in all of the cooks. The crowd was large and took their voting responsibilities seriously. Once again, The New Suncook School Art [...]
Honoring Lovell's Veterans
November 11th is when our nation honors the veterans of all wars. Originally, the holiday was to mark the end of the First World War but was changed in 1954 to include veterans of all wars. Pat Foley and Lynn Hurd have organized a very special exhibit at the Lovell Historical Society's Kimball Stanford House. Nicely arranged are photographs, documents and uniforms that will help celebrate the lives of all [...]
